One of our favorite meditative practices at Namaste is Yoga Nidra, the art of conscious sleep and relaxation. It’s a wonderful way to ease into a meditative, relaxed state if you’ve ever struggled calming and quieting the mind. Yoga Nidra Meditation helps release tension and stress, bringing the brain into a theta state which supports deep mental, emotional, spiritual and physical healing.
Yoga Journal puts it nicely stating, “Yoga nidra is an ancient but little-known yogic practice that's becoming increasingly popular as both a form of meditation and a mind-body therapy. It is a systematic form of guided relaxation that typically is done for 35 to 40 minutes at a time.”
We love the phrase “mind-body therapy.” You’ll be relaxing not one or the other, but both in tandem - something we all need.
Yoga Nidra a deceptively simple process. You begin by lying down on a yoga mat with a pillow behind your head. You don’t have to worry about holding a specific yoga pose or sitting in an upright, cross-legged position - you just have to relax the body. During a typical session, the practitioner is guided through a meditation where you migrate the focus to different parts of the body and release held tension step by step, part by part.
Yoga Nidra is a deeply powerful self care practice to start or end your day - or as a midday reboot, decompression treat. Decide when to have this experience and book your appointment. Make time for rest, its the other half of all the “doing”.
